Competition Dance at KLSOD
For dancers who want to take their training and performance further, the KLSOD Competition Team provides the opportunity to represent the school at dance festivals and competitions across Yorkshire.
Competition dance builds on the training dancers receive in their regular KLSOD classes, combining additional coaching with the experience of performing in front of adjudicators and alongside dancers from other schools.
Joining the Competition Team
Competition dance is an additional pathway within KLSOD rather than a requirement for every student.
Dancers can express an interest in competing, with places determined through request and selection to ensure the competition pathway is appropriate for the individual dancer.
Competition Categories
KLSOD dancers can compete as:
across the dance disciplines they train in.
This provides opportunities for dancers to perform individually as well as developing teamwork and performance skills alongside other members of KLSOD.
Ballet Is the Foundation
All members of the KLSOD Competition Team must take Ballet.
Ballet provides an important technical foundation for competitive dancers, helping develop control, posture, alignment, strength and discipline that support their wider dance training.
Therefore, dancers wishing to follow the KLSOD competition pathway are expected to continue their Ballet training alongside their chosen competition disciplines.
Additional Competition Training
Competition dancers receive additional training through private lessons, providing focused time to develop their competition routines and prepare for performance.
These sessions complement their regular KLSOD classes rather than replacing them.
Festivals & Competitions Across Yorkshire
The Competition Team represents KLSOD at local dance festivals and competitions throughout Yorkshire.
More Than Winning
Competition gives dancers experience performing under pressure, receiving feedback and continuing to develop their confidence and stagecraft.
It also gives members of the Competition Team the opportunity to support one another and represent the KLSOD family away from the classroom.
